As you probably heard, last month we won our primary election and secured the Republican nomination for Colorado State Treasurer!
We were honored to earn the trust of Republican and Unaffiliated voters across our state who support our positive, people-first message of stewardship.
Thanks to our volunteers, donors, and supporters like you, we were able to reach the most voters in the race and win a tough primary against two excellent candidates who ran fantastic campaigns. After our victory, both of my former opponents endorsed my candidacy in the general election this fall.
As the next State Treasurer of Colorado, my goal remains to:
1) Serve as the best State Treasurer I can be to benefit all of the people of Colorado.
2) Use my business and entrepreneurship experience to address important issues in government, and to be a voice for financial matters.
3) Positively impact PERA, which is the largest single debt obligation of State Government in Colorado.
My new opponent in the general election is another existing politician in our state legislature, looking for his next political job. But as voters in the primary showed us, Coloradans are ready for fresh leadership with new ideas for ways to tackle issues like PERA, instead of the same insider thinking.
As we work to reach this new, much larger audience of families and individuals from across Colorado who will be participating in the election this fall, I need your help more than ever.
The governor's race is looking like it will be a loud, aggressive fight, with big money at play on both sides. This will make it difficult for us to stand out amongst the noise on our own and make our unique message heard as a "down the ballot" race.
Can I count on your support with a contribution today?
IMPORTANT: For historical context and helpful perspective, past Colorado State Treasurer's races have needed to raise at least $1 million to get successfully across the finish line and that has been without a challenging primary election.
This cycle, with an unprecedentedly competitive Governor's race at the top of the ticket, we are estimating it will cost us close to twice that to get the word out effectively. This is actually the difference between a win and a loss statewide in 2018.
To put it simply: We need to take every dollar raised in the primary election and raise it again for the general in November, right around the corner. It's truly going to take every person this email reaches to give what they are able.
Whether you and/or family or friends give $100 to the maximum individual donation of $1,150 ($2,300 per couple), or anything in between, it would be appreciated!
We have received strong support from friends and donors like you to date, but need to keep this momentum going in order to deliver our positive message statewide to voters for the November election.
No contribution amount is too small, as every dollar will count towards this effort. This money will be directly used to reach voters across Colorado.
If you wish to help the campaign in other ways by being a volunteer, hosting a friend/fundraiser, sharing our message on social media, or putting up a yard sign, ALL are appreciated and welcome! You can sign up at www.brianwatson.vote/get-involved.
Thank you again for your support in helping us secure victory in the primary election last month. This is a grass-roots people-centered campaign and will take all of us working together as a team to win this race.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and support!
